Honest limits, clearly stated
It proves that the PDF in front of you is identical, byte for byte, to a file issued from a Metax Seal account at a recorded time, and shows whether the issuer has since revoked it.
It does not replace a certificate-based digital signature, confirm that a signatory's identity was checked, or make a document legally valid on its own. Whether an electronic stamp or signature is accepted depends on the document and on who receives it.
A re-saved copy will not match. Printing, scanning, compressing, editing or re-exporting a PDF changes its bytes. If a recipient's copy fails the check, ask them for the original file you sent.
Common questions
Can I use my existing stamp and signature?
Yes. Upload an image of your stamp, signature or initials. Light paper backgrounds are removed automatically. You can also design a stamp in the Stamp Maker.
Can my team use Metax Seal?
Yes, on Standard and Premium. Team members join by invitation. Administrators choose which stamps are shared; signatures always stay private.
Is this a certificate-based digital signature?
Partly. Every issued PDF is digitally signed with a certificate issued by the Metax Seal certificate authority, so any change after issue is detected by PDF readers. Because that authority is our own, readers show the signer as unverified until you install our certificate (see the Trust page). It is not a government-licensed or qualified electronic signature. If a regulator or counterparty requires one, use a qualified provider for that step.
Can I collect signatures from other people?
Yes, on all plans (Free allows 2 signers per request). You mark where each person signs, they get a link, confirm their email with a one-time code, and sign on any device. When everyone has signed, you get the final PDF with a certificate of completion listing who signed, when, and from where.
What does an exact match mean?
The PDF someone uploads has the same SHA-256 fingerprint as the file you issued, so it is identical byte for byte. A re-saved, edited, printed or compressed copy will not match even if it looks the same.
Do recipients need an account to verify?
No. Anyone with the QR code, the record code or the file itself can open the verification page.
Are my uploaded documents shared?
No. Your documents are visible only to you and your organisation. A public verification page shows the record status, issuer and issue date, and the document title unless you hide it. It never shows the document itself.
Stamp. Sign. Share with confidence.
Prepare your next document in one workspace, then give recipients a way to check the issued record.
